Day #7 of Prader Willi Awareness Month…. This is Siena on her way to gymnastics. This is not only a good way to keep her active but is recommended by her doctors (along with horseback riding, dance and marshal arts) to help strengthen her core and hopefully correct and/or stabilize her scoliosis. Scoliosis is very common with PWS because of low muscle tone (hypotonia). In fact hypotonia causes a myriad of difficulties for those with Prader Willi, including but not limited to poor sucking as an infant, delays in walking and speech, as well as a slow metabolism. Siena’s next stop on Tuesdays is to see her speech therapist, just one of many of her therapies she receives throughout the week…
